Buddy

It is fumy how much you connect with your pet that they become a part of your family.Our black Labrador "Buddy" is just that kind of pet.Oh he is so smart! Do I sound like a bragging mother?
Our day starts with him bringing me my pull-over jacket for him to go outside...hot or cold.
He tries to talk to get your attention and I am almost certain he is saying Mama at times. The talking sounds a lot like Scooby Do cartoon.
Oh I can sit here and brag and brag but I am sure your little family member has some human qualities also.

A warm sunny day in Plantersville Alabama and stretched out on the ground looking up.....after all it is Skywatch Friday.It nearly scared me out of my wits when up came my neighbors goats.There is a fence between us so I just reached my hand through and snapped.I was trying to read their minds and all I could come up with was...."What in the world is this woman doing?"

Yesterday.... all that I need to say!

Italian Princess

My Great Niece who is almost 3 can speak Italian as well as English.A cute little story that my mother shared with me not long ago.As they were out eating one afternoon Gabriellla started singing a song.."Nonna Nonna".My mother thought, well she should be able to speak better english than this.Come to find out her other Grandmother from Italy has been teaching her Italian and "Nonna" means Grandmother.

Old Fashioned Lemonade

Lemonade

1 3/4 cups white sugar
8 cups water
1 1/2 cups lemon juice

In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Allow to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until chilled.
Remove seeds from lemon juice, but leave pulp. In pitcher, stir together chilled syrup, lemon juice and remaining 7 cups water.

Battle of Selma 2009

The reenactment The Battle of Selma is coming this weekend to our area once again.

For the past 2 years my daughter has been involved with The Battle of Selma Ball at Sturdivant Hall . The dress she is wearing is a copy of the dress from Gone With The Wind..Ashley's Birthday Gown.She has always loved playing dress-up and has even told me that she goes into character while attending the ball... My Drama Queen..(love it)

As my children were growing up we attended many history events of our nation such as reenactments.This year she will not attend the ball but take her family to the Battle.

Can you imagine darkness for 3 hours during the Crucifixion?I have always wondered why this happened.Perhaps God was saying, "Enough"?, All the sins of the world accumulating in one place? The idea in my opinion that it was an eclipse does not make any sense.Have you ever seen a 3 hour ellipse?

Columbine Piano

For close to nine years this piano has been a part of my home. After a dear friend of ours passed away this became ours as a gift.

The Piano is dated 1895 Columbine Music Co. Denver Colo.

In 1895 Angelo Filippo Onofrio immigrated from Italy to Chicago where he applied his trade working for the Lyon & Healy Piano Co. In 1898 he moved to Denver, Colorado where he started a piano business in a building behind his home. The city was a tiny provincial outpost on the fringe of civilization. The total population of the area was around 50,000. Income levels were well below the national mean and the biggest market for pianos consisted of saloons, bordellos, and the occasional rancher or miner who made good.
In 1900 he opened the Colorado Music Company in the Adams Hotel. Later he moved into his own building on 15th and Welton. Filippo's main lines were the Kroeger, Lyon & Healy and the Columbine Piano which was made exclusively for him by Steger & Sons in Chicago, Il. You can still find Columbine pianos throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. Having been in an arid climate for their entire existence, most of these pianos are in far better condition than other uprights that immigrated over the last hundred years.(for more info click HERE)

I am just wondering if this was one of the first made.At this moment I am contacting the company and asking if they have any more information on the piano.I know one thing it has traveled from Colorado to Alabama, but just curious about the time line.

If there was ever a human Jukebox the name would be Barry Surrett.Barry plays quite often in the city of Selma Al. and there is a rumor of him playing playing soon on the gulf coast now and then.

Born in Anniston, AL Feb 7th 1959

Started playing guitar when he was 16

Self-taught guitar player-electric & acoustic

Lead and back-up vocalist

Started out in Christian rock bands as a teen (played with Kevin Derryberry)

Started night club circuit as as sound technician in 1979 with Dick's Hat Band

He has worked through Southeast Attractions for several years with the band "Blue Max"

He has worked as a road musician for a Nashville recording artist Al Bradshaw

Has toured in the U.S. and Canada from AL, FL, GA, MS, Nashville, N. Carolina, Delaware, Michigan, Indiana, New Brunswick, Canada

Has played in as many as 12 different bands as a lead electric guitarist/vocalist

Has a 250 plus song list

His variety includes Rock-N-Roll (his favorite), Country, & Blues
